What Do I Mean by Playful & Sacred Art?

When you come into the Present Moment, what you perceive is the Sacred.

William Blake spoke to this beautifully -

To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.

As an artist, this is my goal. First, to see the sacred, then to transmit it in such a way that when I see the painting or the object, I am reminded to come back into the present.

With luck, others will feel the same way about my art. They will be touched in some meaningful way.

The subjects for may art is always the Sacred. Sometimes playfulness is the doorway. Sometimes direct representation. Sometimes abstraction. The subject is always the same - The Sacred. The doorway changes.

Playful art comes from the happy inner child. He is free of rules and just does what makes his heart smile. This is the zone of the Zen master as well.

Two of my favorites in this playful genre are the image above of Rhino from the movie - Bolt. I painted this for my wife's Christmas present. It appeals to her inner delight.

Dawn Crow

Dawn Crow makes both the child smile and the Zen master who dwells inside. You'll notice both are very simple. Simple is hard to do but wonderful.
